Failure to address gender-based violence and lack of adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management

Over 500 million women and girls around the world lack adequate facilities for menstrual hygiene management (MHM), and the coronavirus pandemic has further exacerbated the menstruation-related challenges that many of them face. The failure to address gender-based violence (GBV) not only affects female agency but also impedes access to one of the most basic human needs: safe and hygienic water and sanitation services, particularly for low-income households.
